Class Three
Welcome to Class 3
We are a class of Year 3 & 4 children. Our teachers are Mrs Draper & Mrs Hinxman. Mrs Woodhall is also teaching in Class 3 this half term (and loving every minute)!
We hope you enjoy looking at some of the activities that we will enjoy this year.
Our Curriculum
Class 3 cover a range of interesting topics across the school year. The yearly overview provided gives an insight to some of the activities your child will be participating in and experiencing each term.
Class 3 Long Term Plan 24-25.Class Information and Homework
PE Lessons
We have regular P.E. lessons and active minutes throughout the week. Our regular in school P.E session is on Friday PM. Please have a full and correct P.E kit, suitable for indoor and outdoor lessons, available at all times.
Class 3 will be attending swimming lessons this term on Monday afternoons. A full kit is required each week. Long hair should be tied up securely, or a swimming cap can be worn. Jewellery must not be worn.
Spellings
Spellings are set on EdShed and a weekly quiz will take place every Friday.
Maths Homework
Activities are assigned on Mathletics and TT Rockstars for all children to complete every week.
Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check
Year 4 children will take the Multiplication Tables Check in June 2025. This statutory assessment aims to test fluent recall of times table facts. Pupils are asked 25 random facts and should try to answer in 6 seconds or less. To prepare for the check, pupils should use the Soundcheck game on TTRS, as this is the most similar to the real thing. Maths work and support in school will all help pupils to do their best. A recommended time of 20 minutes play on TimesTables Rock Stars across the week has also been shown to increase performance.
Reading
All of the children are strongly encouraged to read daily and to foster a love of reading, choosing to do it for pleasure.
Books are shared regularly and celebrated in class and we have daily reading time in school. Children are rewarded for reading at home or with an adult with Class Dojos.
We expect all children to read at least 4 times a week at home.
Anglo-Saxon Workshop
Today, Paddy from Durham University came to teach us all about Anglo-Saxons. We had great fun handling lots of artefacts, discussing what we thought they were and who may have used them. We particularly liked the sword and helmet!
After lunch, we saw a beautiful replica of the Lindisfarne Gospels. Did you know each gospel begins with a picture of the author? This is followed by a carpet page then an incipit page. This page starts with a large illuminated letter. Ask us why a carpet page has that name! Carefully, we used goose feathers and paint to write our name in Latin.
We have had a wonderful day. Thank you Paddy!
Electronic music!
Class 3 used their coding skills that we have developed over the half term to create musical instruments! Who knew that we could get cardboard and tin foil to make music. We used the microbit computers and our knowledge of circuits from our science lessons, to program our instruments. We realised that the circuit was complete when we touched the tin foil keys or frets that we made. We know all about materials that conduct electricity. We coded each pin on the microbit to make a different note when it was touched.
